10am Sunday Well thanks to everyone who came along
for a top night at the ball this year. While numbers were down significantly,
those who were there made sure that it really was a night to be remembered. I have posted a newspaper article at the
bottom of this page, in case you missed it in the Western Times or QCL from
Thursday 16/10/2008. I will load some photos onto here soon,
and there is still plenty of merchandise for sale. As soon as all the bills
are paid, I’ll let you know how much of a donation is going to be made to the
RFDS!

something that looks good but is practical and hasn’t cost a fortune,
just in case… A bow tie is essential for guys, whether
it be authentic, home made or an improvisation. Yes, you can wear jeans if
you want. I wouldn’t recommend high heels for girls
– you’ll probably kick them off and it is outside – stones on the ground!
Boots or thongs are fine if you want to wear them, and very comfy! Music – Now confirmed -The Rob Black
Band – playing the best country and rock covers from then to now…check out
their site: Also check
out Rock Art Entertainment here The Rob Black Band is also playing at the Australian
Hotel in Miles on the Friday night (October 10th), if you want a
sneak preview! Best Bums competition – Guys
have a chance to put their bum on the line to raise money for the RFDS, and
girls have the chance to judge them! (Or Rude Jude if she wants to come back
– she wears gloves!) Great prizes to be won, sponsored by Gidgee Smith Products – check out some
great products on the website, including rodeo bags and stickers. Best Tattoo Competition
– Always a crowd pleaser! Kindly sponsored by XXXX Breweries. Lots and lots
of great giveaways and prizes if you’re game to show everyone where your
tattoo is hiding! Tattoos are handed out on arrival if you don’t have your
own. Belle of the Ball and Best
Dressed Bloke – Lots of prizes for those of you
who make an effort! Great prizes to be won thanks to Golders and Modern Mode. Best Legs Competition – This is for the girls to show off some
of their best assets… An extra special prize this year too! Extra drink tickets are available to
purchase at $10 for six tickets, if required. Dinner runs all night… even
three o’clock in the morning! And it is delicious and perfectly matched with
the beverages on offer for the evening (roast chicken and gravy on bread, hot
chips and curried beef). A big thank you to all our helpers who
work in the bar and canteen, on the gate and everywhere else! WELCOME!!! This year to our very special
guest compere –
Charleville’s very own Rude Jude! Get a Yellowbelly up ya – sideways!

After
plenty of challenges being thrown at me and my trusty committee this year, I am
very happy to say that the weekend is all over and the b&s was a success!
First and foremost I will thank everyone who made it possible. Our major sponsors this year were Charleville 5-Star – Thank you Steve and Gary not only for the kind donation but also the late drinks run! All of our other sponsors - mainly local business, and to name a few South West Ford and Nissan, Charleville Newsagency and the Queensland police - also allowed us to get the ball off the ground again, after starting from scratch this year.
To everybody who helped for the weekend or before - the gate crew, bar staff, kitchen crew, sound guys, clean up and everybody else, and of course the most helpful "shadow" ever, Jo Gardiner, - you were all just fantastic and it really couldn't have happened without you. I sincerely appreciate all your hard work, as I know most of my helpers also volunteer for so many other community events.
Now
for the news! The ute show saw 14 entries - mostly from away - with people
travelling from as far as Townsville and
We welcomed Mick Lindsay and his band back for the ball, and over 120 people attended (a few were still arriving after midnight!) Plenty of food dye, rum and great music made for "the best night ever", according to a couple of ball goers. The competitions once again proved successful, with Leah Robinson winning over the crowd to take out Belle of the Ball, and a few locals revealing their best assets in the tattoo competition.
The party kept going till well after 2am when Glenda finally took the last bus loads home, and left us with not too much of a mess to clean up.
Thanks
to everybody who came along to either help or party, and any feedback would be
more than welcomed while we decide whether to run it again next year. Contact
me via www.bulldustandbowties.com. At
first calculations a profit of about $5000 has been raised, and that of course
is the most important thing of all, to be able to assist the RFDS.
Newspaper Article (2007 Ball)
The third annual Bull Dust and Bow Ties Charity B&S Ball held on Saturday night at the Charleville Archery Grounds was a huge success.
Over 200 fun loving mainly young adults attended – the biggest ever crowd seen at the event. Braving the chilly weather, party goers danced all night to the Mick Lindsay Band.
‘Rude’ Jude Aitken entertained with her commentary of the Best Bums and Best Legs competitions, encouraging some of the entrants to bare it all and show everyone a lot more than they probably wanted to see! The XXXX Gold Best Tattoo comp was also a crowd pleaser, with plenty of skin (and tattoos!) on show.
Best Dressed Prizes went to Gavin Russell and Pamela Facey, both of Charleville, and Warrick Brown took home the wonderful summer hamper lucky gate prize, kindly donated by Modern Mode.
The afternoon’s prelude of a ute and bike show unfortunately didn’t attract a big crowd, with only a handful of utes entered. About twelve road bikes turned out though, which was a fantastic effort, although it made life a bit difficult for our judges!
The Best Town Bike Category ended in a tie, with both John Gardiner and Mick Ryan taking out the honours. The little blue scooter owned by Chris Castles blitzed the field to take out the People’s Choice for the Best Overall Bike category. Best Overall Ute went to the immaculate Rip Curl Ford ute owned by Ron Oates, from Augathella.
A huge thank you to the tireless committee and volunteers who made the night run smoothly, and to our major sponsors including Scholle’s Four Square, DJ’s Produce, Modern Mode, the Charleville Gym and South West Motors.
An estimated $8000 has been raised for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, with a great night being had by all.

Newspaper Article (2008 Ball)
The fourth
Charleville Bull Dust and Bow Ties Charity B&S Ball, Ute and Bike Show was
held in aid of the Royal Flying Doctor Service last weekend.
A fantastic
night was had by all who attended, even though the crowd was down on previous
years. Almost 100 people danced and drank into the wee hours, with the Rob
Black Band keeping things rocking all night.
The Best
Bums, Legs and Tattoo Competitions were a big hit, with Rude Jude and a couple
of brides-to-be doing a fantastic job of judging, and everyone sharing in the
prizes on offer. The Fishing Club kept everyone well watered at the bar during
the evening, and along with Angela Lube-Smith deserve a big thank you for doing
a terrific job.
The Ute and
Bike Show saw a few entries in each category, with one ute coming all the way
from Mooroopna in Victoria to join in the fun. Chick’s Ute was won by Sarah
Taylor with her Silver Storm, and Greg Dennis brought out his very unique and
special “The Grenade” to win the Town Ute category. Best Town Bike was won by
Pud Frazer, and the Overall Bike winner was John Gardiner. A big thank you to
all the judges and sponsors, and for everyone who took the time to enter or
come down and support the afternoon.
Organisers
are hopeful that a small profit from the weekend can be donated to Spirit of
Queensland entrant James Falvey. Thank you and congratulations to all of the
committee and workers who gave up so much of their own time to run this event,
and to the sponsors and patrons who supported it.
